Counselling and Hypnotherapy
County Durham, Darlington and Bishop Auckland
Hypnotherapy is an invaluable tool, utilised independently, or as a component of the counselling process. While nearly all conditions can benefit by its use, hypnotherapy is especially helpful in coping with confidence-building, stress management, obsessive thoughts, addictions, phobias, weight problems, including motivation and performance enhancement for sport and life issues.
Tailoring each hypnotherapy session to individual needs, I have found hypnotherapy to be a valuable aspect of my counselling work.
What is hypnotherapy? How can it help? Can it be dangerous?
The subconscious mind, like a computer’s hard drive, has recorded every thought, wish and ambition. As with a hard drive, the subconscious forms no judgments, evaluates nothing, only storing input which can be accessed for future reference.
Conversely, the conscious mind can harbour defeatist thinking, hindering hope and blocking success. Thus, we need to bypass the gatekeeper of conscious thought, to reach the reservoir of the subconscious.
Hypnotherapists are trained to lull this guard into passivity.
As to danger, a responsible hypnotherapist will, at the beginning of every session, assure the client that no hypnotic suggestion can have any effect, unless it complies with his/her wishes. Then, before terminating the session, the hypnotherapist will ensure, by appropriate questions, that the client is wholly awake, refreshed and prepared to return to his/her conscious world, with enhanced well-being.
