Counselling Face to Face
County Durham, Darlington, and Bishop Auckland.
People seek a counsellor for many reasons, but their common denominator is pain. This anguish can stem from numerous sources:
a) A sense of abandonment, often beginning in childhood
b) Fear of rejection if revealing one’s true self
c) Guilt about having thoughts and feelings we find unacceptable
d) Anger one finds difficult to control
e) Fear of failure, and sometimes fear of success, with its added weight of responsibility
These are only a few of the issues which can be dealt with in face-to-face counselling. Having dealt with depression, stress, anxiety and panic attacks in my own life, I can help you to work through these stressful issues in a supportive, pro-active manner.
Non-directive counselling: nearly every client at some point, often early on, poses the question, “What should I do?” Counselling is a joint venture; while I cannot provide those answers as such, I can aid the client to discover them within, through empathic listening and reflecting. I attune both to the client’s words and those feelings beneath them, aiding in confronting inner conflicts and barriers to success and well-being.
Working within a solutions oriented framework, I facilitate clients to reach a specific goal or goals in as many sessions as both the client and I deem essential.
Self-advocacy: The French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau stated, “Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains.”
Much of the turmoil and sorrow in life is rooted in feelings of bondage on various levels. Part of my work is to explore with clients those hurdles and fears which often imprison them. Through discussion and role-plays, I guide them towards an exhilarating mode of thinking and functioning. Again, this can be accomplished in as many sessions as the client and I deem to be of assistance.
